Who's a Good Brand?

It started with a Frenchie named Pierre.

Pierre is a French bulldog. If you've never met one, picture a dog who is mostly head, entirely heart, and completely certain that whatever you're doing, he should be closer to it.

He is also the reason this store exists.

Nobody tells you this before you bring a flat-faced dog home: dinner is hard work for them. A regular bowl sits flat on the floor. A Frenchie's face is flat too. Put those together and you get a dog pressing his whole face into a dish, chasing his food around the rim, coming up for air, and diving back in. He loves dinner more than he minds the struggle.

Pierre never complained. Dogs don't. That's what gets you. He would do anything for me, and he had no way to tell me his bowl was the wrong shape.

So I went looking, and the fix turned out to be almost embarrassingly small: tilt the bowl. Bring dinner up to meet him, so he doesn't have to go down and fight for it. It was the same dog and the same food, and the difference was plain to see. He eats comfortably now, and he breathes easier while he does it. Dinner went back to being the best part of his day.

Once you've seen that, you can't stop seeing it. How many other small things does a dog quietly put up with every day because he can't say a word about it? The stale water. The cold, wet walk. The collar that never sat right.
