Corgi rain jacket and winter coat fit
Two things about a corgi matter for a coat. The first is that the belly rides a few inches off the ground, so anything long or loose underneath drags through puddles. The second is that under all that fur there is a surprisingly big chest for a 25 lb dog, and the fur itself adds an inch or so to the tape. Measure over the coat as it normally lies, not pressed flat, and you will get a number that is honest about the dog who has to wear the thing.
Pembrokes and Cardigans both tend to tape somewhere between 18 and 26 inches around the chest, with a wide spread between individuals. Back lengths run long, often 15 to 18 inches. Measure yours; the ranges are only there so the chart below makes sense.
Rain: the All-Weather Jacket in L or XL
A corgi's double coat handles cold on its own. What it does not handle is being soaked, because the undercoat holds water and takes an age to dry. A rain-shedding shell is the piece worth owning, and the All-Weather Jacket is ours: a water-shedding outer, a warm lining, and the harness built into the chest so the leash clips straight to the jacket.
| Size | Chest | Neck | Back length |
|---|---|---|---|
| M | 18.9 in | 13.0 in | 11.6 in |
| L | 22.8 in | 15.4 in | 13.6 in |
| XL | 26.8 in | 17.5 in | 15.7 in |
| 2XL | 30.7 in | 19.5 in | 17.5 in |
Go by chest; most corgis are L or XL. The jacket is cut short in the back on purpose, which on a low dog is a feature: the hem stays clear of the ground and of the hind legs. The trade is that the lower back stays uncovered, so for a corgi it is a chest-and-shoulders rain jacket, not a blanket. The zip runs up the chest, so nothing has to go over the head.
Expect the lining to be warm. On a mild drizzly day a thick-coated corgi may be happier in the vest below.
Cold and damp: the Quilted Vest in M or L
The Quilted Vest is lighter than the jacket, sheds drizzle, and fastens with a wide belly strap, which is the useful part on a corgi: the strap adjusts across a range of chests, so the fur's extra inch does not matter.
- M: 20 to 27 in chest, 17 to 19 in neck, 15 in back.
- L: 24 to 31 in chest, 20 to 22 in neck, 19 in back.
M covers most corgis, with a 15 in back that reaches further down the body than the jacket does. L is for a big Cardigan. Reflective trim on the vest helps on dark mornings, when a short dog is below a driver's sightline.
Knits: the Heritage Turtleneck in L or XL
A corgi rarely needs a sweater outdoors. Indoors on cold floors, or for an old dog, the Heritage Turtleneck in L (20.9 in chest, 15.7 in back) or XL (24.4 in chest, 18.1 in back) fits, and the knit stretches over the fur. The Fireside Cable-Knit is too small for this breed: it ends at a 16.5 in chest.
Not for corgis
The Trench Coat is a toy-breed coat (up to 16 lb, neck to 11.4 in). The Fireside, as above. Nothing here is a judgement on the dog.

Shipping and returns
Free US shipping on every order. It ships in 1 to 2 business days and usually arrives 4 to 9 business days after that. You get 60 days to try it, so order the size the chart gives, try it on indoors, and send it back if the fur makes it tight; the Shipping & Returns page has the steps. If you do need to swap, how to measure your dog for a coat covers the tape placement that trips most people up.
Questions
Will the jacket flatten or mat the coat?
It is worn for a walk, not all day. Brush the coat afterwards, as you would after a harness.
My corgi is 30 lb. Which size?
The scale cannot tell you. A 30 lb corgi can tape 22 in (L) or 26 in (XL). Measure the chest with the fur as it lies.
Does the vest keep rain out?
It sheds drizzle and a short shower. For a proper downpour, or for a walk that lasts an hour in steady rain, the jacket is the better choice.
